Life is wonderful

I must admit that I am totally spoilt in so many ways, being able to craft in lots of beautiful locations around Australia as I do.

My husband and I have reached a stage in life when we can take off to warmer climes for winter in our motorhome, which Rob converted from a small bus specifically so we can live in it off the grid and fully self contained. we named the motorhome Robbiebago II. You can follow our journeys on a separate blog of the same name here.

It is this life on the road that has prompted me to look for a craft I can easily source materials along the way, it doesn't require lots of space or weight and that there be aspects at least that can be done whilst Rob is driving esp on the long road trips. (Australia is such a big country, almost as big as the USA and it surpasses all of Europe.)

Europe fits in Australia with lots of room to spare.   On this trip we've only gone north as far as Gladstone which is a good 18 hours non stop driving.  We've taken a leisurely few months to get there.

The fact that I can use the sales of my sock creations to support Without a Ribbon is also very important to me. WaR is an Australian charity set up to support people who have been diagnosed with rare cancers of which I am one myself. Rather than count the days I have left, I can be proactive.

Sure there are some days that are not as great as others but the vast majority of them are great and these is what I focus on. Now that we know my husband also has a degenerative lung disease just makes our time together ever so much more precious especially while we can still both travel.

So lets leave all that extraneous drivel and get on with showing you my latest sock creations.
Many of them are still available for sale as I have not been attending any markets this trip other than from the other side as a browser and buyer! LOL

Can't Help Falling In Love

Just like the Elvis Presley song,
Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with ....my sock creations

I am enjoying designing some new creations and I just can't help myself.
Even when doing some of my frequent designs such as my sock dolls or sock monkeys there are just some combinations or something that makes it my latest favourite.

I mean it. How can I stop falling in love with each new creation. At this rate I wont be able to part with them.

I named these after the father son actors: Jerry & Ben Siller

Gosh I even like my little ugly but cute Kooky monsters.

Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand,
Take my whole life, too
For I can't help falling in love with you
For I can't help falling in love with you

Socks, socks and more socks in all shapes, sizes, and colours

I’ve made a few of these sock toys now and I have been enjoying creating all manner of toys out of them.

My first group photo of my cuties

So of course that means if I want to keep going, I am going to have to start collecting them. Well, that's been no chore. In fact I just can't help myself... I keep finding new socks, especially in the post Christmas sales. I can even find brand new socks at op shops on occasions. I am not above using second hand ones, but I more or less want to know the person for some reason. If I am going to sell these cuties, then surely you are entitled to have toys made from brand new socks.
Just a small selection of socks

We all have them, in all shapes, sizes, and colours. They serve many purposes: They mainly warm our feet or protect our feet inside shoes. They are great for tussles with the family pet. They can be annoying when they separate and we can't find the mate.

Little cousins love storytime

But in my mind, best of all is that socks can be used to create the most incredibly cute and durable toys. We all love things that make us happy. I find it amazing that even a plain sock let alone a pretty sock can bring us so much joy!

The beginning of my parliament of owls

I find that I just can't walk past shops now without taking a peek at their socks. I picked up some great post Christmas bargain socks.  Of course I can order them on line, but I just love seeing and feeling their texture.

My small troop of monkeys have all found homes

I have to make a few more cats and monkeys for sure. I want to play around with and idea for a dinosaur (and if it doesn't turn out then I will turn it into an alien for fun!

Cecil the Cat is my last remaining cat at time of writing

What would you like to see?
Let me know in the comments below!
If I make a new toy from your idea I will name the first one after you!
